In a report released by Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) an estimated 27,226 females were killed in the 7 years of Syrian war, 15,337 and 11,889 of which were adults and children.

The report stated that 21,573 of the females amounting to 80% were killed by the brutal Bashar Assad regime, 1,231 by Assad ally the Russian forces, 926 by the International coalition forces, 844 by ISIS, 220 by the YPG and the remaining 10% by the other factions and parties in the war.

The report pointed out that a total of 89 of the women died under torture in prisons, 71 of whom where perpetrated by the Assad regime, 14 died in ISIS prisons and the remaining 2 in YPG prisons.

The report also documented that over 9,906 women remained behind bars and under torture with 81% been held and tortured by the Syrian regime.

These numbers are of those documented, a large number of cases remain unreported and documented  till today, this implies this figures could significantly be higher.

Fadel Abdul Ghany, chairman of SNHR, added: “Despite the unimaginable burdens borne and violations endured by Syrian women, a large proportion of them remain faithful to the cause of resistance against tyranny and the struggle to take back the long-withheld basic rights and freedoms of the Syrian people in their entirety."
