At the ‘National Integration’ to mark the 130th birth anniversary of India’s first Education Minister, Moulana Abul Kalaam Azad held on the 10 November, 2018, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar fears that caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s proximity with the BJP may pose a huge threat to the continuation of 4% reservation for Muslims. He said "If TRS comes to power, the 4% quota for Muslims, introduced by the Congress, may go",
Mr. Reddy alleged that Mr. Chandrashekar Rao 12% reservation promise to the Muslim community of India was a duped and not a serious one.
In 2004 this 12% jobs and education reservation promised was seen reduced after the congress government implemented 5% within 58 days after coming to power in 2004. Although it was further reduced to 4% on High Court’s direction, Congress took steps for smooth implementation of Muslim reservation till the final judgment of the Supreme Court.
TRS government’s failure is well known, with most noticeable been their failure to challenge the verdict of NIA Court on Mecca Masjid blast case wherein all the accused were acquitted and also the report on Alair encounter, where five Muslim youth were shot dead and never made public.
Mr. Reddy also slammed the MIM president, Asaduddin Owaisi, for supporting Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao and being an ‘agent’ of Mr. Modi. He reiterated that voting for TRS or MIM would be like voting for the BJP, under who's watchful eye Muslims have been lynched and killed on suspicion of cow theft or transportation.
As events in India keep unfolding, we will keep a watch on how the Muslims in India will fare, whether they will embrace the secular democratic system that could not keep it promise of 4% or they will raise their heads high up to confront the ungodly Hindu state.
